How strong is your foundation?

I was talking to my husband the other day and the subject of empathy came up, and that as Christians we find that quite a few are selectively empathetic. What do I mean, well it’s easy to have empathy for those that we see as good people, but it gets harder when you can't easily define if they are good or bad.
The dictionary defines empathy as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another.
The bible says 1 Peter 3:8 NKJV-
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;
1 Peter 4:8 NKJV-
And above all things have fervent love for one another, for "love will cover a multitude of sins."
John 13:35 NKJV-
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."
There are many examples, these are only a few. As Christians I think it is important to look to our foundation, if you have a strong foundation it makes it easier to follow Gods will. We need to empathize with all those around us the Good, and the bad. Also remember it isn't our place to judge others, leave the judgement to God.
As Christians we are always striving to learn. I believe it’s important that from time to time we have an internal checkup. To make sure we still have a strong sturdy foundation, and that we are following Gods purpose for our lives, and not focused on societies goals. The more we follow societies goals the more we fall away from Gods.
When we have a firm foundation it is easier to empathize with others, and less likely that we focus on whether a person is good or bad. I have always been of the understanding to leave the hard stuff to God, so I will leave the judgement of others to Him.
So often those of questionable moral character need more empathy, and if we as Christians can give them that, the chances of being able to welcome them into the family of God is that much greater. Let us all be empathetic and welcoming to all that need it!
